Jaleel Bunton and More Artists Demo the American Original Series

Check out the new Fender American Original guitars and basses in action.

One of the most buzzworthy releases at the 2018 NAMM Show, the new American Original Series caused quite the uproar in Anaheim, Calif., as players from around the world got the chance to see them in action at the Fender showcase.

Inspired by some of the most-successful Fender guitars and besses through the decades, the American Original Series boasts 11 models that take cues from the best features of the 1950s, '60s and '70s.

It's true that these instruments wowed on the NAMM floor, before they were available to the masses, several artists got the chance to take them for a test run.

Here are a few of those artist demonstrations (including Jaleel Bunton of TV on the Radio trying the American Original '50s Telecaster above):

Annie Clements, who has played with Sugarland, Amos Lee, Anderson East and Maren Morris, runs the American Original '60s Jazz Bass through the paces. "It's what I consider to be a super bass, starting with the '64 Pure Vintage Pickups," she said. "To my ear, this is a brighter-sounding bass, which I love and my front-of-house engineer loves. You really hear the note definition, where the note begins and ends."

Tyler Bryant of Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown got a turn with the American Original '50s Stratocaster. Unleashing a few tasty licks, Bryant came away impressed. "It's true to the original, which I prefer," he said. "This is a sweet axe!"

Jose Rios of Anderson Paak and the Free Nationals walked through the American Original '60s Jaguar and was definitely digging the neck, which has a "'60s C”-shaped neck profile and a 9.5”-radius fingerboard. "It's great for me, because I like a bigger neck, personally," he said. "It's cool because there's modern and throwback features together on this neck. It compliments the guitar."
