Master Builder Jason Smith On His 30th Anniversary Esquire
See the talented guitar maker discuss his addition to the 2017 Prestige Collection.
Inspired by the Fender Custom Shop’s 30th anniversary, the annual Prestige Collection of guitars on display at the 2017 Winter NAMM show represents the peerless craftsmanship, artistry and detail that elevated the Custom Shop to worldwide acclaim.
Jason Smith’s 30th Anniversary Esquire pays homage to some of the legendary founding master builders of the Custom Shop. The guitar’s Relic treatment is a nod to the weathered buildings of long-deserted western mining towns while a run of black-painted pine body Esquire guitars by Fred Stuart inspired the three-piece reclaimed/roasted pine body wood, and the overall western theme—shotgun-shell knobs; a .30 caliber switch tip and the rustic weathered “30” on the front—recalls the western-themed art guitars once created by Stuart and Alan Hamel.
