EXPLORING THE LIMITED EDITION MARK SPEER STRATOCASTER

For more than fifteen years, the Grammy-nominated trio Khruangbin has delighted and beguiled audiences with their sui generis mix of soul, psychedelia, dub and global influences ranging from Iranian pop to the rock music of Thailand. Like other great bands whose constituent, interlocking parts make for an astonishing tapestry, bassist Laura Lee, guitarist Mark Speer and drummer Donald "DJ" Johnson are a remarkable fluid unit, capable of finishing one another's artistic thoughts, or asking entirely new musical questions no one had thought to ponder previously.

Part of Khruangbin’s singular, highly sought-after sound is owed in large part to Mark Speer’s lyrical, expressive playing, so it might come as a surprise to some that he found his unique tone completely by accident. When switching out his Stratocaster’s original pickups with DiMarzios he explains, “Of course, I did it wrong. The resulting sound is not typical of any Strat.”

We worked in close collaboration with Speer to develop his new, limited edition signature model, replicating all of the mods to his own beloved creation, including DiMarzio® Pro Track™ pickups in the neck and bridge and a 70s Stratocaster middle pickup. We’ve also added Graph Tech® saddles, which, according to Speer, provide a “bell ring that suits this guitar very well.” Other highlights include a beautiful natural ash finish, a Custom “C”-shape neck with a 7.25” radius and 21 jumbo frets for a superb feel and comfortable playability.

The final result is a stunning signature Strat fit for anyone looking to reproduce Speer’s otherworldly sonics and provide inspiration to help you find your own distinctive sound.
