You might recognize Eugene Edwards for his searing licks while manning lead guitar duties for Dwight Yoakam. Performing with the country legend has helped Edwards build a name for himself as one of the hottest sidemen touring today.

Edwards' musical career certainly doesn't start and stop with Yoakam, however.

The Yuma, Ariz., native has played in several bands; worked with the likes of Sha Na Na, Brian Wilson, Stevie Wonder, Beck and the Monkees; hosts a podcast entitled The Jukebox Graduate; and boasts many composition credits under his belt.

Needless to say, Edwards is comfortable with a guitar in his hands.

That's why he was a perfect personality to tap to dissect the Fender American Acoustasonic Telecaster.

Designed to inspire, the Acoustasonic Telecaster is a technological marvel, as it delivers both an organic acoustic feel and Fender electric playability.

The Acoustasonic Telecaster is powered by the Fender and Fishman-designed Acoustic Engine – a proprietary blend of classic analog and future technologies that optimizes the guitar’s natural sound, and then modifies the resonance to deliver a curated collection of voices.

These acoustic and electric voices can be played solo or blended via the Mod Knob to create new sounds. They can also be used simultaneously, courtesy of the Fender Acoustasonic Noiseless magnetic pickup.

While testing out the Acoustasonic, Edwards took full advantage of the different voices, from the dreadnought/auditorium-sized acoustic tones when the pickup selector is in the 5 position to the clean and fat electric sounds when it's in the 1st position.

"You can go from (front to back)and go from (being a)lead singer playing acoustic rhythm to a hotshot lead guitar playing in the corner," Edwards said.

Edwards also shows the viewer how the Mod Knob can blend the tones to open up even more creative avenues for the adventurous player.

That's exactly what Edwards hopes happens for anyone who pickups up an Acoustasonic Telecaster.

"The idea is that our tips are not the end-all," he said. "They’re the first step in your journey. That’s where the greatest stuff happens. So mess around and enjoy it."
