The American Acoustasonic Telecaster Goes Exotic with New Cocobolo Model

When Fender debuted the American Acoustisonic Telecaster at the 2019 Winter NAMM Show, it immediately garnered widespread acclaim from casual players and artists alike.

Not only are these world-class instruments visually striking, but they also have the ability to produce a diverse set of acoustic and electric tones through innovative electronics and craftsmanship.

The Acoustasonic Exotics Series expands on that platform with the addition of three rare woods used to craft a trio of new models to the line. By integrating Cocobolo, Koa and Ziricote into the Acoustisonic design, Fender has furthered its commitment to creating the highest quality instrument possible.

The first up in the Exotics Series is the American Acoustasonic Telecaster Cocobolo.

Cocobolo is a highly figured wood from Central America boasting a deep reddish-brown hue with a beautifully pronounced long, dark grain. In addition to the cocobolo top, the back, sides and of this guitar are made of smooth-playing white limba (also referred to as korina), marking an elegant compliment. As with all Acoustasonic Telecaster guitars, an open-pore satin finish makes this cutting-edge guitar extremely resonant and responsive.

The fully hollow body features an integrated forearm contour and Fender's patent-pending Stringed Instrument Resonance System (SIRS) – designed to deliver a naturally loud voice with lively harmonics.

It is also powered by the Fender and Fishman-designed Acoustic Engine – a proprietary blend of classic analog and future technologies that optimize the guitar’s natural sound, and then modifies the resonance to deliver a curated collection of voices. These acoustic and electric voices can be played solo, or blended via the Mod Knob to create new sounds. They can also be used simultaneously, courtesy of the Fender Acoustasonic Noiseless magnetic pickup.

"The sound is unique because the tonewoods are all working together to give you a different sound than what you would hear with the standard Acoustasonic models," guitarist Nathaniel Murphy said as he took the Acoustasonic Telecaster Cocobolo for a test drive.
