IN CONVERSATION WITH ADRIAN YOUNGE FEATURING HIS SIGNATURE JAZZ BASS

Known for everything from composing award-winning film and TV scores to collaborating with luminaries like Ghostface Killah and A Tribe Called Quest’s Ali Shaheed Muhammad, multi-instrumentalist and producer Adrian Younge is one of contemporary music's most original and exciting creative forces. It should come as no surprise, then, that his Limited Edition Masterbuilt Jazz Bass is one of the most unique models ever to come out of Fender’s Custom Shop. 

Younge’s highly specific vision for his bass came, in part, from his love of 60s and 70s analog recordings and vintage instruments. So when the Custom Shop collaborated with him to create this model, they worked meticulously to capture the space-age aesthetics and old-school sonics that are elemental to Younge’s signature sound and style. Some of these details include a Journeyman Relic Aged Silver Sparkle lacquer finish with matching painted headcap, Bakelite® control knobs and a maple 60s “C”-shape neck with a rosewood fingerboard.

Custom Shop Masterbuilder Levi Perry was also able to incorporate two of Younge’s favorite analog effects into his Limited Edition Jazz Bass – a 60s-voiced fuzz and a square wave tremolo, both of which can be easily turned on and off via the master volume and tone controls. Finally, this exceptional signature model features a half fretless neck, which Perry constructed to seamlessly and effortlessly transition from fretted to fretless. 

The ultimate result is an extraordinary instrument that looks like it came straight out of the space-age 60s but is ready to inspire the most modern of players.
