The 1970s represented a musical bridge from the counter-culturalism of the ‘60s and the decadence of the '80s.

Rock was undergoing a renaissance as it matured, with veterans of the British Invasion morphing into arena-filling acts and guitar forming their own world-dominating bands. New artists were also appearing underneath the rock umbrella, while other musical movements stirred, echoing the growing attitude of acceptance and experimentation of the era.

One of those movements was punk, as distinct scenes popped up in both London with outfits like the Clash and Sex Pistols and New York with the Ramones and Television.

Le Butcherettes singer/guitarist Teri Gender Bender feels a connection to the raw energy and subversive nature of that '70s punk. It shows not only in her vintage-inspired style, but also in the fierce emotional music of her band.

"What attracted me to punk music was that I had a lot of pent up anger and frustration," she said. "And of course, I love the Beatles and I love the Rolling Stones, but I felt that they just weren't doing it for me when it came to releasing that frustration and that anger. And that's when I came across the Buzzcocks, the Dead Kennedys, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, Siouxsie and the Banshees. I related to their anger, to their mystery that they captivate one with, with just their eyes."

Gender Bender got to pay tribute to some of her punk heroes while trying out the Fender Vintera '70s Telecaster Deluxe, putting a unique spin on the Buzzcocks' 1978 hit, "Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve)."

In the cliip above, Le Butcherettes roar through the song in a performance that takes the viewer back to the days when New York's CBGB or the Roxy Club in London were packed sweat pits.
