Curtis Harding feels a connection with the sounds of the 1960s.

The Atlanta-bred artist comes from a musical background, as his mother, Dorothy, was a touring gospel singer and had him perfoming at a young age, effectively immersing him in soul music.

As he grew older, Harding received a thorough education in rap and hip-hop, as he went on the road with Cee-Lo Green as a backup singer throughout his 20s.

Absorbing the different genres that constantly surrounded him, Harding began to meld them together in a style all his own he calls "slop 'n soul," which is on full display on a pair of acclaimed solo albums, Soul Power and Face Your Fear.

This vintage-inspired sound is not only a refreshing call-back to the classics, but it's also perfectly at home in the modern age, giving Harding a unique take on the popular music of today.

"I'm not the most technical guitar player, but I like to think that I know what's good," Harding said. "I have good taste and I know good style. If you don't have a style then you're just going through the motions, man, you're robotic.

"So with my personal style, I try to keep it as classic as possible – give little pops here and there. I think that the devil does live in the detail, so it’s the little things."

That ethos makes Harding a perfect pairing for the Fender Vintera Series Jazzmaster, a guitar that was highly favored by surf, rock and – perhaps most appropriately – soul artists of the '60s.

With period-correct neck shapes, new pickups with decade-specific tones and a wide breadth of vintage colors - such as Ice Blue Metallic and Olympic White - the Vintera Series can help artists like Harding access the '60s in the modern era.

To showcase his Vintera '60s Jazzmaster, Harding offered a updated take on Tommy James and the Shondells' smash hit, "Crimson and Clover," while filming on a set that would have been just right during the song's 1968 release.
