Fender Re-Creation Remixed: Danny Felix Covers Latin Standard "El Manicero"

“El Manciero” is one of the most popular standards in Latin music.
Originally written by Cuban artist Moises Simons in the early 1900s, it became a global phenomenon, selling massive amounts of records for the various artists that covered it, and still, to this day, it remains a respected tune on which modern artists continue to put their spin.
Inducted into the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001, “El Manciero” (a.k.a. “The Peanut Vendor”) provides a great platform for improvisation, and that’s part of the reason why Mexican songwriter and producer Danny Felix chose it to lead his edition of Fender’s Re-Creation Remixed series.
As Felix noted, “El Manciero” still carries weight in his home of Sinaloa, Mexico. “It’s a song that inspires a lot of guitarists, a lot of Mexican beginner guitarists, where we’re from,” Felix said. “I just feel that everything is improvised. Every time I play it, it comes out differently. The rhythm guitarist is doing two chords over and over, but the lead guitar is constantly doing riffs.”
Felix was able to further explore the extended boundaries of the song with the Acoustasonic Player Telecaster in his hands, as he highlighted the rich acoustic tone created by it’s groundbreaking resonant body and Fender- and Fishman-designed Acoustic Engine.
The virtuoso, who recently produced Bad Bunny's charting remix of "Soy el Diablo" (ft. Natanael Cano), also chose to play one of his own tracks for this session.
Coming off his 2021 album, Vuelve, “Mala Experiencia” has taken the world by storm, as its official video has garnered over 340 thousand views on YouTube since its release.
For Felix, it’s a song that incorporates that improvisational feel, with a hint of personal experience.
“The personal always comes out, here and there,” he said. “But I like to imagine a lot of things, like I’m heartbroken, and then I write from there.”
