FIDLAR has come a long way in the decade since guitarist/vocalist Zac Carper and guitarist Elvis Kuehn met while they were both working at the same recording studio.

In order to get to know the equipment around them better, they took advantage of their down time to just hang out and jam. Who would have known that partnership would grow into a band that has embodied the skate punk vibe of Southern California so well for so many years?

"At that studio, (Kuehn)was interning, and I was working for a producer," Carper recalled. "I remember I was humgover, and we just started jamming together. The formation of it was moreso learning how to use the recording studio."

FIDLAR - which also includes Kuehn's brother, Max, on drums and bassist Brandon Schwartzel - has taken that D.I.Y. spirit and risen from the underground (their first EP was actually titled DIYDUI) to three critically acclaimed full-lengths and tours with the likes of the Hives, the Pixies and Wavves.

Looking back, Carper appreciates the journey from the bedroom to the tour bus.

"Our first tour was with the Hives. And then the Pixies. That was crazy," he said with a laugh. "The (Pixies')manager's son saw us play at Leeds Festival. He was at dinner or something like that and asked, 'Hey, what young band should we take on tour for the Pixies.' And he said, 'Oh, you gotta take FIDLAR!' That's how it happened. Isn't that wild?"

When they are on the road, most recently to support 2019's Almost Free on Mom + Pop Music, both Carper and Elvis Kuehn are sure to have a Fender Telecaster close by, as the workhorse Tele can withstand their notoriously raucous live sets.

"There's something about Teles, especially on the road, they just feel really solid," said Kuehn. "They're just road-worthy. They're just the best guitars, too. Strats, Teles, Jazzmaasters ... they're some of my favorite guitars."
