Jim Root Telecaster

I really like the sound and tone of the guitar. I like the looks of the guitar. I find it hard to play. The string tension is much higher than any other 25 1/2 inch scale guitar I own or have owned. Getting a low action on it has proven to be very challenging. I will end up using the guitar for drop d and drop c tunings but not for standard tuning. I find I'm fighting the guitar to play solos. I know this is set to Jim's specs which I do not follow as a musician. I did get this guitar because I love Tele's and wanted one that Rocks hard. I'll just have to keep playing it until I tame it.

I finally got my Jim Root Tele at Christmas of 2012. I waited 6 months for it to finally arrive after ordering it in the summer. I ended up getting a Strat in October because I felt the Tele was taking to long from the factory. I paid cash for the and was getting angry because the arrival date kept getting pushed to the next week. The music store I ordered it through was very apologetic and I knew it wasn't their fault. Then I got a phone call from a very excited salesman from my music store. The Tele was in! I went down and unboxed it myself, and purchased it without even playing it. As soon as I got home I had a better look at it. Perfection!!!!!!!!!!! This kick ass and take names guitar is awesome! Everything was right and sounded mean! I've had a dozen Telecasters (all American, not cheap!) that have been great but this Jim Root Tele blows them all out of the water and then violently throws them back in and drowns them! If your still reading this rant, go get one!

When I got this guitar the action was high so I went to go into the case to get the hex to adjust the bridge saddles. The hex was too big. I still have to find out the correct size. But otherwise the guitar is great. If there was no problems with the hex I received I would have rated it a 5. It can play great, I have played other models of this with fine action. The guitar is solid. Stays in tune. It comes with Strap locks. I changed them to Dimarzio Clip-Locks. Jim Root uses them and they are great. The guitar was a great buy. If it was stolen or destroyed I would be destroyed then I would buy another one.

Very nice modern Telecaster

I love the look of the Telecaster but do not love the twangy sound of the single coil pick ups. I was checking out some 72 Fender Telecaster Deluxe. I already owned a Squier Telecaster Custom Deluxe which I love but was ready to upgrade to a Fender. I ended up ordering this Jim Root Signature Telecaster in Flat Black with Maple Fretboard from Guitar Center without playing it first. I just fell in love with the simplistic styling of this guitar. Please note, that I do not like to play Slipknot style heavy metal, I am more of a old school rock and roll player. When I received the guitar, I was not initially impressed. The action was too high and I was not used to the 12" radius of the neck (I liked the 9.5" radius of my Squier. The other issue was tone. I was not used to playing EMG active pickups. I had the action professionally set up and I began to adjust the settings on my amp, a Fender Mustang which allows me to get many different sounds easily from one amp. After finally getting everything set up to my desires, I can't put this guitar down. I can play everything from the clean sounds of Jimmy Buffett and Bob Marley to the distorted sounds of Green Day, Kiss, and Iron Maiden and they sound amazing. Now I am looking to also get a Fender FMT Telecaster with Seymour Duncan pick ups and compare both guitars but I will not get rid of this one. It really rocks.
