Maybe my Deluxe was just bad luck, but when i got it 1,5 years ago, it was quite a disappointment. Frets were all rough on the edge of the neck, tremolo didn't hold the tune at all & pickups were just weak. I'm a poor full-day composer who's got used to playing with what i've got, but this one just didn't work. When i got to the half of a song, i needed to tune the guitar again. Luckily as an exchange for my old faithful Ibanez SC620, i got a Squier Standard (HSS) which served my work very well, so i wasn't too deep in **** because of this Deluxe. And because i loved the look of this Pearl White body, i didn't return or sell it. I began to study how to mod strats. First i changed the pickups to S.Duncan JB,YJM,Jazz-set, the tremolo to WilkinsonVs50 and last the neck to Classic Vibe 60's. Now the guitar is a dream to work with. But i still feel that i should have bought the Classic Vibe in the first place. This summer i did, and i love it just the way it is. :)

Sure, going about buying a copy of the real thing felt a little odd at first, particularly since I had owned an American Standard Stratocaster, which I sold for this one. You might think I had given away the real thing for the cheap copy. But as I went over the specs and features of this one and ordered it to check it out for real, I was very pleased to see that my above assumption proved to be wrong! In other words, I really wasn't able to experience too much difference in action, sound, playability, handling and overall value of the instrument. In fact, when you think about adding higher value parts as you go along, this one doesn't fall too far behind the American Standard Strat at all. Fender will not be all that pleased to read this, I'm afraid, but in other words, you get an instrument that doesn't have to hide in the shadow of an American Standard Strat for less than half its price, or in my country, i.e. Germany, almost at a third its price. I'm completely happy with my choice and don't think I could have done any better given budget constraints and an overall tight monetary, if not precarious, situation. It really makes me happy to own this little unpolished gem!

Put in some Super Fat Super Strat pickups (the standard Seymour suck - although his shop did rewind a Super Fat Super Strat for me). The neck is fantastic. A nearly not there finish that lets your hands go faster up and down the neck.
Instead of buying any Fender, recommend you pick this up, go on Ebay (there's a guy who hand winds pickups to your spec - from 50s to Beck or Clapton) and immediately change the pickups to your favorite combination - even if you want the Gibson humbucker sound.
Find a certified guitar tech, put on 10 or 11 Fender bullet strings (let's face it, Fender strings work best on Fender products, Gibson on Gibson or Epiphone are best). The bridge is about the best commercially available, so why change it?
Have about six Squier guitars (7 if you include a Jazz bass). Would never go over to the dark side of getting an expensive Fender (own about four Epi's, too, no Gibson - amazing what good guitar techs can do). This and the Squier Jaguar are my two faves right now. This is made in China. A Guitar Center salesman said guitars made in China are done microscope perfect. He's right.

After researching this Strat for months I purchased one over a year ago. I'm on a budget, for the money this plays and sounds like butter.
The Seymour Duncan Designed PUs are clean, chimey and full of tone. I replaced the bridge PU with a Seymour Duncan Custom Custom Humbucker. This Strat is routed for humbuckers in the bridge and neck. The neck is thinner then I'd like, I have large hands so I prefer thicker necks. I use it at home for practice, but easily could hold up to heavy road gigging.
My only complaint is during dry winters the neck shifts and the frets bulge. Simply use a humidifier, it take care of that issue.
It was perfect out of the box, but for us looking for more a few mods and tweaks this is a hot rod machine.
