Fthe first thing I noticed was the lack of a tone knob. Wide open is your only option, much like Chris' playing. There was a time when I scoffed a Squire product, and labeled them entryl level basses. Those days are gone. Are Squire basses the same level of construction as an American standard, but they are built well beyond the pricepoint. It is light weight and comfortable. A little nose heavy, it will dive if you do not have a good leather strap will help negate this. The neck is comfortable and very playable. My only gripe about the neck is the clear coat on the back. As a personnal preference, I like a satin or oiled neck. The sound is raw, wide open, and energizing. If you drag your figures, these pickups will announce it to the world. If you are Chris, your playing so fast, it doesn't matter. This is a worthy bass at any level. You can't match the price and get the same build quality or sound. Now I have to get my sandpaper and have at the neck. Enjoy this bass.
