I've been on a mission to find my dream Strat, and this is pretty much it. The neck is a perfect fit for me and the pickup combination is great for classic sounds. I call this the Strattiest Strat in Stratville. At first I was disappointed that there was no interesting grain in the sunburst, but then I was incredibly impressed that I can't see any wood seams no matter how hard I look. It's also my lightest USA Strat, just a hair over 7 pounds.
But the main thing is the neck. For years I just had a 96 American Standard that I loved but had some hand cramping issues that I now know are due to the thin modern C shape (and despite what Fender says, my 96 modern C is definitely thinner than others I've got like early 2000s American Deluxes). I tried out several different guitars & necks this year. SRV - love the slightly thicker neck, and like but don't love the 12" radius. New American Deluxes - I don't love the modern C, but love the soft V. Don't care for the 9.5"-14" compound radius. Feels too flat for me up high. I tried a CIJ vintage style neck, soft V with 7.25" radius. Loved the profile and the radius down low but not on the high frets. So next up was the Hot Rod 50s. I LOVE the 7.25"-12" compound radius but the D profile is just a little too chunky for me. Last up, the Hot Rod 60s. It nailed it. 60s C shape with 7.25"-12" compound radius is the winner for me. If only it had 22 frets I'd try to get it on all my Strats.
