I am a Fender man through and through but never really knew how much so until I went to the factory in Mexico. I was amazed by the fact the MIM Fender guitars were almost all made by hand !! Machine rough cut and then every detail from that point on was by hand, body shaping, neck work and frets. I own 27 Fender guitars and amps, I have 6 CD's and 2 grammy nominations and I have 2 Fender tattoos that got me listed on Fender as one of the 60 greatest random acts of rock and roll, so I know what i'm talking about when I say "there ain't no better guitar and amp on the market than Fender". When I first saw my Tele at one at the local music stores, I knew I had to have it. Every day I could, I went to play it. I love the Midnight Wine color, the feel of the neck, the controls, the sounds, everything. It's even got a beauty mark on the headstock. The tones at my fingertips go from dreamy to dreary to fury and everything in between. I may not have been the first owner of my Tele, but I won't part with this guitar quite so easy as the last owner.

Love playing this guitar! For me the neck is perfect making the guitar very playable. Sure a telecaster doesn't have as many features as some other guitars but thats the beauty of it, its so simple! That sound that it kicks out is unbeatable! Wouldn't ever get rid of my tele, timeless design, awesome sound and endlessly playable, a must have guitar!

My #1 Gig Guitar

I have had this guitar for 19 years now. I had it professionally set up the day after I bought it. I also put Texas Special Pickups in it back in 1998. I also changed the pickguard on it over 10 years ago. This guitar is "Da Bomb" This is my second favorite guitar, My other is a 89 Tele. This guitar has been played a lot, the neck has been worn down and the fretboard is heavily worn, the frets are almost wore out. it still looks and sounds great. A natural relic. This guitar has been all over the west coast and used to record. I paid $350 for this back in 1994 when I bought it. This well loved and well played guitar has served me well. When it gets to the point it's unplayable I'm going to hang it on my studio wall

Very Good Guitars

Amateur Blues Rock Country

I really like my 2011 60th Anniversary Standard Telecaster. It's a somewhat rare color, White Chrome Pearl - a sparkly silvery finish. The neck on this guitar is really nice and it was set up well out of the box, but I had it set up by a pro. Good fretwork. The downfall of this guitar is the ceramic pick ups. I replaced the bridge pick up with a GFS 63 Tele Pro model and it changed this guitar into a hot country twanger. The Fender Standard Tele is one of the best values out there...well worth the 499.00 even with the lower grade pick ups.

I have a Red Telecaster that I use as my "tune down" guitar. Looks great and is a solid performer. Love the twang sound and it is great for Blues.

The Telecaster has a tried and true design that still looks fresh after over 60 years. The solid construction and great ergonomics, plus the great tone and playability contribute to the Tele still being one of the world's most popular and revered guitars.I've owned my beautiful Midnight Wine Tele for 6 years and it still looks new.The Tele sounds incredible when played clean yet it also sounds great when played through an overdrive, distortion or an overdriven amp.A lot of people wrongly brand the Tele as a country guitar but it can be used in just about any genre of music and even famed jazz guitarist Ed Bickert has played one for decades.Although it is well known for its icepick sharp treble response, by just rolling off the tone pot you can get mellow tones even from the bridge pickup.I think that no guitar collection is truly complete unless it contains at least one Tele because the Tele's tone is so identifiable and unique,no other guitar can replicate its wonderful classic sound.

Fantastic design and excellent finish on this fine instrument, the neck finish is a work of art. It has a really great tone, both pickups boom out at you which I find really great.
I have got to admit though, I was unhappy with the initial set up of my guitar and was surprised at that aspect of it. It's all sorted now and I don't think you can go past one of these as an entry level guitar. It's solid build quality and worthy of the Fender name.

I have a this in a Brown Sunburst. I have modified it heavily but never due to play-ability. Has played great from day one. I bring this one out for the Blues Gigs.

My favorite fender telecaster

supercooltattoo on February 19, 2013
Amateur Blues Alternative Rock Heavy Metal

I have owned a highway one, blacktop, and American deluxe tele and the Mexican standard is my favorite. Love the neck and the fit and finish are awesome , mine is white . The maple neck feels so good . The pickups sound awesome hotter then a strat more articulate then a humbucker, but I am installing noiseless fender pickups to get rid of hum picked up from my computer when recording . The saddles on the bridge don't dig into my hand like some tele bridges . If you are looking for a workhorse guitar that can do anything you can't go wrong . I even use this for metal and its articulate and thick with the right amp settings. For very dirty blues , rock it's awesome. The articulation is also perfect for modulation , delays and reverbs for more soundscape tones like U2 magwai, and such. I don't need to tell you about the cleans and country tones there will be plenty of other reviews doing that.

Gateway Tele

texasguitarslinger on February 19, 2013
Professional Blues Funk Jazz Alternative Rock Classic Rock Pop Rock Country

I bought a used 2008 Tele Standard several months ago on a whim to see whether I'd like Teles or not. Well, the answer was a resounding yes! I played my Standard live for about two months before I bought my Highway One Tele. The Standard is sunburst with a beautiful piece of wood underneath, but it was very heavy. Not all of them are, just mine in particular. And on 4+ hour long gigs, my Highway One soon replaced it as my go to guitar.

Tone wise, my Highway One sounds a little better to me but I replaced the pickups with American Standard pickups so it's not really a fair comparison. I'm not a big fan of the ceramic magnet pickups in the MIM Standards, but they're easy enough to replace if you want to try something else. The neck is thicker than the average Strat, but just right for the average Tele. And I blame it for turning me into a Tele fanatic!

My workhorse guitar. Does everything I ask of it. I have a 1996 top-loader. Doesn't suffer in tone. In fact, it seems to have a little more spank to it than a string-through. Jim Campilongo could tell you all about that, though. Anyway, I digress. Great guitar.

A great first guitar

Amateur Jazz Alternative Rock Classic Rock Pop Rock Punk

This is the standard, most basic Fender Telecaster available, but that doesn't mean it's missing anything. The classic tele twang is there, plus some smooth rhythm tones from the neck pickup. This is a surprisingly versatile instrument! It sounds great, though many will find the tone control is only useful in the highest %25, and has a really solid feel. The build quality is great, especially for an entry level guitar. I haven't had any noise or hum issues with this, and the only upgrade I want to make any time soon is putting in a 4-way switch.

This guitar feels great and has a beautiful tone. Comparing these to the american standard, I'd go with the standard every time. These are well built guitars that are in every way just as playable as guitars twice the price.

Bought one of these as my first electric back in 1996. Has been my #1 ever since. Great sounding instrument right out of the box and just reeks of quality. Sturdy build, classic design and quintessential tone! I highly recommend plugging into a nice all tube Fender and getting swept away to tone heaven!

I bought this guitar almost 2 months ago, and have played it everyday since. I was in the market for a Tele' as I always liked the style, and the twang of these guitars. I tried all three, the Squire Classic Vibe, the Standard and American Standard, and settled for the Standard. It feels like an American Standard, it plays like an American Standard and for half the price. The pickups are nice, very clear, the bridge pickup has that famous Tele' twang, very playable, comfortable in your hands, the weight is a bit heavier then the American Standard but not overly. As far as I can tell all the hardware is identical as the American, my only concern was a small dent in the wood that had been painted over, but its really nothing to worry about. Overall and excellent guitar, at an excellent value.
