My first Strat

(5.0)
tim1300r on February 20, 2014 (updated February 21, 2014)

This is my first Strat. Well, to be fair this was the first left-handed Fender anything I ever played. I have always played Gibsons due to the availabllity of left handed guitars, really. So I was spoiled for choice as my dealer had 4 lefty Fenders of all series in stock, so I had to try them out.
This guitar is fantastic, it really is, and it feels lovely to play and sounds just like a Strat should sound. I don't understand how they can do it for the money.
So now I'm a bit of a Fender convert at age 50!
And to keep this guitar company I bought the Telecaster as well!

I'm not a lefty but I need a lefty Strat to enable me to accurately play the Hendrix covers I do as the configuration of a flipped Strat is essential in order to do some of his playing "tricks," sound effects and techniques.

Anyway I have had my Standard Strat for several years now and it shines in every way.The fit and finish are flawless and all of the hardware is of great quality. The electronics all work smoothly and have been trouble-free since new. The vibrato mechanism isn't as robust as that of an American Standard or Classic Strat but it still is plenty strong-even for vigorous Hendrix-style dive-bombing etc.-and holds its tuning when you take the time to do a proper set-up. It's the sound of the guitar that completely sold me on it when I tried it out. I tried it out in the store on a Marshall amp, which is what I use when gigging, and I got tone that strongly reminded me of the clean tone of the Strats on Jimi's early albums and it sounded incredible when overdriven too.

Even to this day and several guitars later, I still regularly pick up the lefty Strat because of its exceptional tone and playability.F or a lower priced guitar, it certainly isn't low on tone, quality and playability. I consider it to be a first rate gigging guitar and my nephew who plays professionally full-time and is a successful recording artist, uses one as his main gigging guitar also. He had bought it on my recommendation and is glad that he listened to me.

I did a bit of research before buying this strat. I surfed message/blog posts and for the most part anyone with out an agenda said this was an excellent option. so far in my opinion I see nothing to prove this wrong. now I don't have a real frame of reference as i'm an absolute beginner and this is my first electric guitar. that being the case understand this will more than likely be my main guitar and since i'm learning on her what I use as a measuring guide for all other guitars . so as I am a beginner and not an accomplished guitarist I can say anything about the ease of play or how flawless it plays. I can say that even with my fumbling hands I've heard some sweet tones come out of her! when a note, chord , scale , riff does happen to get played correctly it is almost shocking how beautiful the sound can be. came to me mail order and was well setup. a very straight neck, flawless finish and excellent craftsmanship. for such a reduced price compared to the American version , I see no reason to wish I spent the extra money for the American, aside from the value of my mim wont increase . but this isn't the reason I or anyone buys a mim so there ya go ....buy .....play ....enjoy!

A Must-Own for Lefties

(5.0)
schnepf13 on April 15, 2013 (updated April 16, 2013)
Amateur Alternative Rock Classic Rock

I bought my left-handed Standard Stratocaster back in 2001 and, 12 years later, I still use it regularly. This is an extrodinarily comfortable guitar to play, and is useful in a wide variety of styles. The guitar is well built and has held up under regular, daily use. The only maintenance it has required is a couple of set-ups and some contact cleaner on the pickup selector switch. Otherwise it's continued to work just as well as the day I bought it.

Every guitar player should own a Strat of some type and the Standard Series, in my opinion, is the best value for your money. For lefties espiecially (whose guitar options are somewhat limited), I'd not hesitate to recommend this model as a student, practice or gigging instrument.

Everything you can expect from a stratocaster. It looks great and plays extremely well. Very good price, there's no reason why someone at a beginner to amateur level should be deterred from buying this guitar.
