I bought this when my Vintage Crate 30 decided to change channels all by itself as well as some issues with the controls. I had the amp for 15 years, and I was done with tubes. I remembered I loved my Fender Stage Lead and this amp reminded me of it. I got 100 watts, two channels, and a retail price of 299.00.
When I got it home, I was excited, and over time, I am looking to sell this one. Don't get me wrong. This is a great buy for the money, but I am dissatisfied with the tone. Also, after less than a year, the footswitch went out. Of course, that's not a warranty item so I had to buy a new one. The spring reverb is terrible, so I have to use a nanoverb for my reverb (run through the effects loop,) The cabinet rattles now. The distortion is too dry for me, and the amp is a little hissy/noisy. The jacks are really tight, so when I plug something into the effects loop I have to really push in the old 1/4" jack. There's just a feeling of junkiness to the amp.
I wish there was an outlet for an expansion cabinet.
Would I recommend it to a beginner? Probably. It's loud, and does decently with pedals. But it falls short on tone.
Again, a decent value for the money, plenty of power to spare, and good basic features.
But, you may find out you will simply outgrow it.
Well, I have had some really nice Fender amps in the past. Thanks to a divorce a few years ago, I sold all my electric guitars and amps and kept an acoustic. I had a Twin, a Blues DeVille (212) and a Blues Jr. So, yes, I am all about the Fender tube tone. So last month after a few years of strumming the acoustic, I bought a new MIM Strat Pro Top and a Frontman 212. I got the blue covered one, and it is a great looking amp. I paid less that $1000 for both, and some accessories. I plugged in, and I was very surprised at the tones. Both channels sound great. I took it to an open jam the first week, and it was a good sized bar. There was more than enough power. It filled the room and sounded great. I let another guy play through it so I could listen to it from a distance. Beautiful. Anyway, I decided to buy a Mustang Floor unit and man am I having a blast! I'm going to do a review on that next. The Frontman alone sounds great, but the Mustang changes everything with it. My neighbors must really hate me now......

One year ago I bought a frontman 212r and it wasn't too long until it started buzzing. It was a dreadful noise so I decided to claim for guarantee. The dealer (MAS MUSIKA in Ecuador) gave me a new one, but it came with the same problems. Frontman 212r was not what I was thinking. Both amps had manufacturing problems (resistors get very hot, probably the cause of the noise).

I have owned a 1970 Fender Bandmaster since I was 17 years old and have loved the sound that only a Fender amplifier can give. But, it's a rather large cabinet that houses the two 12" speakers, thus making it somewhat unfriendly to gig with. I've always loved the Twin Twelve amp, but was never able to save up enough money to get one. When I first read about the Frontman 212, I couldn't wait to get my hands on one. And, what a great sound it has! Once again, there's nothing like that great Fender amp sound and this little thing covers all the bases. I don't take it out to gig much so I can't speak to it's durability. But, I have, along with some other friends, put the amp to the test on several occasions as to it's overall sound and I couldn't be happier. Try one and I believe you'll be completely satisfied. I've had some guitarist suggest replacing the stock speakers, but so far I haven't really considered it. I'm sure it would probably enhance an already great sound, but I'll leave it up to those who are so inclined to replace them. Thanks, Fender! You created the greatest guitar (strat...I own two) and bass (Jazz...own 3) and always have had the edge on amps. This one can take it's place along side my Bandmaster as a great, great Fender amplifier.

Great sound, especially on the clean channel. The pedal it comes with is very cool and useful. Amazing price and value. Very Loud and great for gigging and practicing. I love this amp!

This is the next thing to a tube amp for anybody who is tight on a budget. The only thing that I wanted on it that it doesn't have is a speaker out. Though it is a solid state amp, it can still retain all the chime that I need it to do. The built-in distortion sounds like it was made for metal players, but the sound is really flat and generic sounding to me. The "more drive" mode isn't really usable in my opinion because no matter how low you may turn down the drive, it still has the same, over-bearing, and feedback inducing noise. It works well with my pedals pretty well though since I use many fuzzboxes in the front and some delays in the FX loop. The volume can go from barely audible to extremely loud with the touch of a finger for me. Overall, I really like this amp.

Have recently bought this gem of a Twin, simple to use and great looking. Clean sounds are my cup of Tea as I play older country, rock and roll, rock-a-billy and '50s pop. I grew up with this music and it is my kind of music. My MIM FSR Ash teles and MIM Deluxe Lonestar guitars sound full and robust through this amp, sounds just like the old Twin Reverbs I had years back. It is straight forward easy to use, much lighter to lug around and puts out the typical Fender sound that has delighted audiences for years. I only use the clean channel so I'm sorry not to be able to review the drive sounds.
I hope it weathers over for many years but so far, I'm really a happy owner. Thanks Fender for the always great equipment.

I have had two of these amps. The first one after about three years began to cut off and on while playing, usually in hotter weather. I took it in to a repair shop and they sent it to Fender in Arizona. It was replaced by an identical model. The second lasted two years and began to have the same problem of cutting off and on at about 15 second intervals. Good thing it was not at a show.
When the amp is working I loved it. You can't beat that twin speaker sound for depth. I think the clean side was incredible and really voiced my Stratocaster. It also works really well with stomp boxes, I use all Boss pedals. Despite the problems I want another one. Great value amp with all the power you could ever need.

5 stars may at first seem a bit simple to give this amp. I mean after all, its effectively a loudness for cheap solid state amplifier? Well this is true but you have as it is never going to be going on tour with the bands selling out arenas or recording studios for grammy award winners, so there is no point comparing it to marshall and messa tube amps for tone and sound, you must compare it to its contemporaries. When you do this you see this is simply the best solid state amp money can buy. Hands down the best clean sound for an amp of this kind and it takes pedals extremely well meaning you can develop your sound once you have progressed from bedroom to band.
Yes it is annoying you can't use the just the speakers and attach a head, and yes the in built overdrive is a tad dry but isn't that what pedals are for anyway? The same goes for my case against modeling amps which always seem to leave you a little empty of a genuine sound and have no character of their own. Character is what makes me give this amp 5 stars, you will not find a better solid state clean sound and the classic looks do alot for me . This amp is the best in it's field and it makes you smile whilst encouraging to develop your own sound.
This amp wins , Simple.

This amp has many uses, I run a vocal mic(eq'ed) on input 1-Low imp. and my casio keyboard on input 2 both on the clean channel and control the keyboard volume from the keyboard. The volume is set at 5 on the amp. Yes this amp is plenty loud and I have a Marshall MG100HDFX to compare it to, sooo!!! Yes it really should have a headphone jack, and the power switch could be on the front. Great effects loop is killer in my opinion, nice integration for external effects!! I have used it as a guitar amp and a P.A. GREAT Amp in my opinion!!!!

This amp has it all. Great tone for whatever I play and POWER to spare. From jazz and blues to full on metal! It never fails to surprise and at a great price.

I have had this amp for a while. It is plenty loud, but I wish the volume controls were a bit more responsive; when I dial in from 1 to 2 it is loud! I have to roll off significantly on the instrument itself when I need to be playing at lower volumes as there is not a gradual increase.
The clean tones are nice. I was not too concerned with the gain and 'more gain' channels as I have a bunch of vintage distortion and OD pedals, but when I don't feel like packing them, the amp does a good job in those regards.
The Reverb is a little antiquated to my ear; I find myself using it less and less. The footswitch that came with the amp crapped out but I found a cheap new one on eBay to replace it as I lost my receipt and Fender needed it to repair it.
I suggest an amp stand as it helped the amp project where I wanted it too.
I really hate that there is not an additional line out to run an extension cabinet; and also the fact that there is not headphone jack is annoying, but I guess some things had to be cut to stay in the affordable price range.

The Frontman has gotten me through many gigs as a beginner guitarist. After four years it's still playing as good as new. It's as loud as you need an amp to be for any gig. I would recommend installing some good caster wheels though. The clean channel is crisp and the distortion channel gives a nice growl to your playing, but I would recommend some extra boost if you want to play metal. For the price, it's hard to beat.
