Classic Series '50s Stratocaster®

Model : 0131002
$1,071.99MSRP
The Classic Series'50s Stratocaster® guitar epitomizes the vibe of the'50s. The color selection alone - Surf Green, Daphne Blue and Fiesta Red - takes you back to the era of diners, Ike and cars with fins. With a maple fretboard, tinted neck, single-ply pickguard and aged plastic parts, it's authentically retro, and the three single-coil pickups with staggered alnico magnet pole pieces deliver that unmistakable'50s Stratocaster sound.

Not one little bit impressed

I tried out this guitar at a local guitar shop. I mistook it for the American Special (it was the same price & colour) but it played like crap. First thing I noticed was the gloss neck but thought it might just be a different year. When I played it, I actually asked the sales guy if there was something wrong with the amp because it sounded so thin and unspectacular. I also found the hardware on it to be chintzy. In the end, I laid away an American Standard from a different shop. I certainly wouldn't recommend this to anyone under 70 as it wouldn't be what they were looking for.

This is what it is like to play a soft V-neck Strat when it is new. My (tiniest) quibble is the modern thin strings... in the late 1950s thicker strings would be standard (which need addtional tremolo springs to the provided three). Stock, it is a retro demon, and it is easy to hot rod without breaking the bank. This might possibly be the greatest value in the Fender catalog.

Best Vintage Guitar Ever

Now this Stratocaster is truly the gem of the Mexican factory. The specs on this guitar are on par with the American Vintage Reissues. The look and feel of this guitar is unbelievable. I have the two tone sunburst and I love it. The V neck profile is very comfortable. I really enjoy the 7.25" radius which I never tried until I bought this guitar. My favorite tuners are the vintage style, which this guitar has. Add in the vintage style pickups, and you have yourself a astratocaster that looks, feels, sounds, and plays just like Buddy Holly's. By far the best Stratocaster Fender produces in the sub $1,000 range. I recommend this Straocaster over any other model shy of Vintage Reisssue or Custom Shop.
