I've owned this bass for about 3 months now, and I can't explain how great this bass is! I also own an American Standard Jazz and this P easily stands up to it in quality and tone! Now obviously you can't compare the tone of a P and a J as they are so different, but I'm talking about the cleanness and the pureness of it. The precision has such a great tone to it, I can't really explain it, you have to try one yourself!
I've always been a bit scared of the Mexican built basses, but this bass has the best built quality I've ever felt from a Mexican fender, and as I said previously it stands up to the Americans!
The versatility of this bass is outstanding too. You'd think you would be limited due to there being one tone knob, but trust me you can get a sound out for any occasion. I play in a blues trio, and a punk band. In both groups I use this bass. Roll off the tone and you find yourself in the smooth tones of blues, while rolling it on full you bring out the punchiness you would expect from a P, use a pick and you could take down a building.
Overall, without exaggeration, I give this bass a 10/10

After playing drums and guitar semi-professionally for a few years, the logical step, so that I could record a funk/blues/rock band was to learn the bass as well. Most of the music that I listen to has punch and growl that only a p bass can deliver. So a few months ago I went shopping and found a fiesta red classic 50s p bass that was everything i needed - a maple neck that doesn't get clogged with dirt like rosewood, a light body to stop neck aches, a colour that stands out and has a good, vintage vibe, an anodised gold pick-guard that complements the vintage look, pre-2012 american standard pickup that makes this bass sound as pro as american models and a flat baseball bat type neck, that complements my big hands. To top all this off, it's mexican made, so can be found at a steal of a price (mine was old stock, so was a bit cheaper than a mexican standard). After a few months and the honeymoon period ending, I am still in love with this bass. A must buy if you want the cheapest 'full fat' p bass in fenders catalogue-period. A small warning, however, anyone with small hands stay away!

I tried it at the store and put it back in the rack. It had a nice tone and would have bought it but it had a serious quality issue. The slot for the E-string on the nut felt way out of its place. The string spacing was too big between the E and A string in comparison with the other strings.
OK, not too many features, more quality than quantity. This bass is quite light and easy to play if you don't mind the wider neck of the 50s spec model. For a proper Fender that plays and sounds as good as this I think its pretty good value. You can't beat the simple classic design of a regular "P" Bass; although I did change the anodized pick guard for a tort' one, which i think looks much better with the Fiesta Red of my model. The best thing about this bass is the tone; it sounds great; just sits in the mix, easily heard without being load but can be "thunderous" when required!

Plays amazing. Sounds amazing. Looks amazing. After years of playing an active style bass, the 50s precision is exactly what I needed. You won't be disappointed.

This bass produces exactly what you'd expect from it...classic P-Bass tone! The maple neck is well made and feels solid and smooth to the touch. Frets are nicely done. The body is light and well finished. Not much in the way of "features" on this bass but that's the beauty of the P-Bass. One volume, one tone and your fingers/pick give you all the sounds you need. The bass has a great hollow P-Bass tone that brings you back to the original P-basses...you know, the sound that keeps drawing you to pick up a P-Bass! Using a pick with the tone knob up full offers great rock tones with plenty of clarity, nice bottom end and plenty of grit. Plucked fingerstyle with the tone knob rolled off and you'll be in old school blues/R&B/country heaven! Take a look at the price tag and you'll KNOW you're in heaven! For the money, you can't beat it. Highly recommended. I own one and bought another for a friend as a graduation gift...it almost stayed with me instead!
