Drive your sound with raw humbucking power. Fender's innovative Blacktop™ series expanded the sonic horizon of classic Fender guitars by powering them with high-gain humbucking pickups. That phenomenal Blacktop power and performance now comes to the bass world with a dual-humbucking-pickup version of the Precision Bass® guitar.
Sleek and supercharged, the Blacktop Precision Bass® guitar features two pummeling Blacktop Bass humbucking pickups that make it one of the most powerful basses - if not the most powerful bass - Fender has ever offered. Other distinctive touches are three Jazz Bass® control knobs (volume for each pickup and master tone) and a Blacktop HiMass™ bridge. Features include an alder body, maple neck with modern C shape and gloss urethane finish, rosewood fretboard with 9.5" radius and 20 medium jumbo frets, three-ply black-white-black pickguard, open-gear tuners and chrome hardware. Available in Black and new White Chrome Pearl.

Playing in a Ska/Reggae band this Bass for me was the obvious choice. The build quality is excellent, playing is smooth and stress free and the bass tones are exquisite. Real gorgeous deep bass tone, exactly as a bass should sound in my humble opinion.
Whilst looking for a new instrument the Precision was bottom of my list. But after trying this model in my local music store I didn't try any more after playing it and bought it there and then. It just feels right, almost as if the guitar was made specifically for me. I've had the it over a year now and do not regret my choice and take great pleasure in using it ever time I play be it at a rehearsal, gig or just sitting at home. I'd say the only mistake Fender have made with this instrument from my point of view is that I'm so happy with it'll be a long time before I think about getting another guitar.

I bought this guitar back in February 2014 from my local Fender dealer after playing both the Blacktop and the Standard P-Bass. I chose the Blacktop because I liked the tone of the instrument better. The dual pickups gave the guitar a bright quality that the single pickup just didn't have for me. Shortly after purchasing the guitar I replaced the strings, only because the ones that were on it sounded dull to me. Other than that, I have been extremely happy with this guitar. I play this guitar at least once per week at church and sometimes just to jam on my practice amp at home. The price was a good selling point, too, considering it gave me extra money left over to purchase a great case that could carry all of my extra cables, wireless system, strings, tuner, and tools. Now, I'm just waiting on a 5-string model to show up.

I have played my Blacktop (Black) for about 3 months now.
In hindsight, it is just a great every day bass - good (but not amazing) tone ranges, solid (but not the most solid), easy to play. Looks good - my mother commented that it looked like a racing car :-)
The issue with it, is that it is not the most solid bass in town - I have a P-Bass American Deluxe and you can feel the difference. Having said this, I haven't had any issues with with my Blacktop - I have gigged with it and play it most days; a very comfortable bass.
If you have a top of the range bass that you don't want to wear out, definitely consider one of these P-Bass Blacktops.

When you thought you had all the "basses" covered this fender bass comes along. First of all the finish (black on black) is perfect well finished could not find a flaw and i was looking hard. The neck is fantastic fret and nut work second to none. "c" shaped neck 9.5 radius very nice. The pickups are true monsters they deliver a deep and varied sound you can dial anything rock, metal, jazz blues, it is truly amazing. I have an american fender p deluxe, and american fender jazz and this blacktop is over the top. The tone is very effective the spectrum of sound is very wide from the capacitor. All the hardware is top, the bass feels like it costs more than what they are selling for. Don't let this bass get away it is fabulous leo would have been proud.

I saw and heard this Bass last year around Christmas time. I knew then that I had to have one. My opinion is that this is the most powerful P-Bass EVER!!! I have owned a P-Bass since I was 17. I got my '73 back in 1976 and I still have it. If you play metal this BlackTop will give you all the power you need to destroy all the local clubs in your area. Well worth the $700 plus tax. I named my BlackTop " The Wrecking Ball". This Bass drops low notes equal to small nuclear weapons!!! I own 7 Bass Guitars and thought I had all my bases covered until I heard this Bass. Stop what ever you are doing and go to your guitar shop and get one. You will not be disappointed.

Very comfortable and very playable. I absolutely love the variety of tones that you can get from the two humbuckers. I wish it came in a greater variety of colors.

I went into the Fender dealer thinking I may buy a Jazz Bass. At the time, I already owned two precision's. However, this one caught my eye stright away. It was about $900AUD at the time. Two humbucker jazz pickups in a precision bass body was an excellent blend of what I had and what I was looking for. It combined the best features of what I was really after - a bass that felt and played like the other precision basses I owned, but also the unmistakable jazz bass tone. But after playing a couple of jazz basses, this one stood out with a life of it's own as well. The extra power the humbucking pickups give is really noticable. Fantastic playability, value for money and good tone. The only adjustment I made was to lightly sand down the back of the neck, to get rid of the factory lacquer finish.

Played the Fender Blacktop Precision bass today at my local Fender dealer and I was VERY impressed! Upon picking up the instrument (decked out in Chrome Pearl White) I was immediately struck by how SOLID this bass felt! It did not feel like a Mexican made instrument. I felt like I was picking up one of my vintage/American made Fenders. Good weight (not too heavy, not too light), solid, smooth neck (although I would prefer a little less gloss on the back of the neck. Guess I'll have to wear that off myself by playing it!), solid feeling volume and tone knobs, nicely dressed frets and a big old bridge that says "Hey, I'm one solid mutha-F-ing bass!" Plugging into an SVT stack, the bass immediately impressed with its girth, bottom and clarity. Perfect combo of boom and grit! Found myself playing it for longer than I usually try a bass in a store because it was so easy to play! Notes played even and clear with no obvious dead spots at all. From the very lowest notes to the highest frets, the notes just leapt out of the dual pickups. After playing it for quite a while I finally looked at the price tag that was hanging on the neck and was floored to see a price of just under $500!!!! Thought it had to be mislabeled! Couldn't believe the quality and tone for the money! Nice addition to the Fender line and a bass that will soon be coming home to meet my other Fenders!
