More about Marcus Miller Jazz Bass®

Marcus Miller's combination of soulful groove and astounding technical ability has made him one of the jazz world's preeminent virtuoso bassists. Fender's stylish Marcus Miller Jazz Bass® guitar is soulful and astounding, too. It has an ash body, distinctive black pickguard/control plate and one piece C-shaped maple neck with a 7.25"-radius maple fingerboard featuring white binding, white pearl block inlays and a satin finish (gloss finish on the headstock, plus Miller's signature). Incredible tone comes from dual vintage-style Jazz Bass single-coil pickups, and the two-band active EQ has an active/passive mini-toggle switch. Other features include chrome neck pickup cover, knurled chrome-dome knobs on the volume controls and black Jazz Bass knobs on the tone controls, a Fender Hi-Mass bridge and three-bolt neck plate. Deluxe gig bag included.

Awesome & Excellent Jazz Bass.

I love this Bass! I have seven Fender basses, all of them great playing & sounding basses but my Marcus Miller Jazz Bass is the one that gets played every day & goes with me wherever I go to play — jam or record. Modeled after Marcus Miller's 1977 Jazz Bass I bought mine new in 2008. It's made in Japan (the Marcus Miller bass is now made in Mexico). I have the natural finish model. I recently played one of the new Mexican models to see how it compares to my Japanese version & though there's a lot of similarities, there's also a few things different (not bad, just different & mostly esthetic.)
The sound & feel of the Marcus Miller Bass is the same. This is a versatile ballsy bass with a lot of tonal options as it can be played in active or passive model. I also really like the neck on this bass - it has a nice solid feel. The differences on the Mexican Version vs the Japanese version is the Japanese version or MIJ has a slightly aged finish on the neck, binding & pearl block markers & the current MIM version does not have this done to the neck. The pickguard on the MIM version is a 1 piece pickguard & the MIJ version pickguard comes in 3 pieces (identical to Marcus's bass), the battery compartment on the MIJ is located on the front of the bass & the MIM model has the battery compartment moved to the lower middle of the back of the bass. I only mention these changes because some folks might prefer the MIJ version as it's exact. That being said the MIM 1 piece pickguard & new Battery location is now the same as the American made Marcus Miller 5 string bass.
Anyway this bass is worth checking out. It's a great playing & great sounding versatile Rock & Funk machine.
I would gladly get the current version Marcus Miller bass should I want a backup to my 2008 Marcus Miller Jazz Bass or if I had to replace it.

well ive been playing bass for over 25yrs.ive been playing fender jazz basses
most of my career.i am a huge fan of the three bolt neck jazz basses in the
past they had some problems with the way the heel of the neck fit in the body pocket
but that is not the case for this bass.this bass is very well made and the craftsmenship
is excellent.i have american models very similar to this bass and the marcus bass
is pretty darn close.i play this bass thru an ampeg bass rig and the sound is bold
round and in your face.very ballsy and punchy.the only real complaint i have is
there is a slight buzz because of the single coils.excellent bass, great sound.
this bass is a keeper!

I up-graded to the Marcus Miller Jazz from a beginners model and I've been playing it for about six years. I also own a 70's fretless, a five string and a semi-hollow-body, as well as an electric up-right. But the Marcus Miller Jazz is the one I use to record, to play gigs and to jam on. The neck / fingerboard is way better than any other bass I've tried. You can dial up any sound and play any style with this. I use the Marcus Miller DR fat beams and recently upgraded to an Aguilar tome hammer 500 and 112 - this brings out even more of the tone range than I used to hear from my 70's Marshall combo. I'd buy another one!

Absolutely the BEST Bass I've EVER Owned!!

(5.0)
debraehart on March 13, 2013
Professional Blues Gospel Rock Classic Rock Country

I've owned over 1000 basses in the 42+ years I've played. I've owned the best stuff, and some of the average, and this Marcus Miller bass is the BEST bass I have EVER owned. The electronics makes this bass stand out amongst all that I've owned and still own. The playability is stellar! I love the skinny neck, vintage frets, and the vibe this thing has. The only issue I've had with mine is when I got it it had some clear overspray on some of the upper register frets. That didn't take too long to clean off. :-) I can get ANY sound I need out of this bass. I love the active/passive capabilities this bass has. The Badass bridge is the best bridge for this bass, and you can intonate it dead-on. I wish you made a big chrome F cover for the bridge though, but that's because I love that look. I wish you offered it in more colors, like blue or black, and I would prefer it had a rosewood fingerboard. Mine is natural with the maple fingerboard of course. I love this bass so much that I do want to pick up another one, and I will not part with this until I die. Seriously! Good job Fender!!
