The American Vintage '58 Precision Bass® commemorates the first year in which the bass that started it all appeared in a Three-Color Sunburst finish. That classic combination is now a longtime Fender tradition, and the '58 American Vintage Precision Bass brings you other authentic features including a lightweight alder body (ash on White Blonde model), thick C-shaped maple neck with 20 vintage-style frets and black dot inlays, gold anodized aluminum pickguard with lacquer finish, and new American Vintage '58 split single-coil pickup. Also includes lower-mounted finger rest, vintage-style bridge with threaded steel "barrel" saddles, flat-top knurled chrome control knobs, reverse tuners, mounted chrome pickup and bridge covers, and more. Available in Three-Color Sunburst, White Blonde and Black.

I played a '58 Precision on the road for about 15 years. When I first saw this repro about a year ago, I didn't believe it could be even close to the same. I watched it close and finally I could wait no longer. I talked to a rep again, and he said he had never played a '58 but he assured me the specs were supposed to be the same and if not I could return it. I purchased one, and when it came I spent a good hour just holding, feeling and looking at it. Finally I plugged it in, and that was the nail. All the memories and feelings were back. The sound was off the chart. I could not be happier with it. I have owned at least two dozen basses, and by far this is my choice, thanks Fender!

I bought the '57 two color tone which is similar to the '58 except for the additional tone color. I understand that this bass sits on the top of historic instruments. I am commenting on what I have. The finish is superb, the alder wood grain is well picked out, and it just glows with an internal depth. The solid single piece maple neck has a beautiful amber tint with the thin fret wire that is well finished no sharp edges and well leveled. The head stock has the correct period Fender sticker and the reverse tuners very well finished too. My capacitor also .1 uf it gives the full color of the pickups from very dark to sharp. Along with the pickups, the bass has a solid tone that has no overtones. The notes resonate and sound with clear definition. The 1,75 neck i think adds to the overall effect of not having any dead notes down the neck. The full composition of this bass is stunning, the two tone color and the gold anodized pickguard are beautiful together along with the maple neck. I play in a classic rock band and also worship music, the sweet tone this bass puts out is quite unique. Overall this is a fantastic musical instrument that represents years of development. I am playing the very best of its development.

I bought the American made '57 Precision re-issue (2-tone tobacco sunburst finish) to do some digitial recording in 2001. It's identical to the '58 presented here, though the '58 is a 3-tone sunburst. For performing and recording, this bass lays down a fat, wide bass track that is incredibly satisfying. I have received many compliments on its look and sound over the many years I've owned it. The neck has no "dead spots" and the vintage pick-ups are the holy grail. I bought my first Fender bass in 1977, a then-new Jazz Bass that I still own. That bass is without question the best investment of any kind I ever made (besides my wife and children), and it remains my first love. The '57 re-issue is an exciting mistress.

I have tried 4 different version of this product. Unfortunately, Fender has really dropped the ball on this one. It is just an American style bass with the typical American bass sound. Nothing special about this bass at all except for the design. What Fender has actually done is given you the design of a 58 Precision without the sound, but with the high price.
This is a wonderful new addition to the new American Vintage Series. Overall, it hits the mark on the classic Fender PBass design. The tone is fantastic. Very tight and true with a great mid range and sustain on lower notes. Fits all styles of music and sounds fantastic with the Fender Flats that are provided too. Well worth the money.
