It's All About The Tone

If you have a home studio, then you probably dream of creating new sounds, while retaining the listenable and archetypal sounds of the past. The Fender Precision takes you there; and is a must have for the home studio. You can try bass after bass with mediocre results. Just get it over with. Spend a thousand bucks and buy THE bass--the American Fender Precision. The custom shop pickups sound awesome, and honestly, I never find the bass in any of my tracks lacking.

The classic P-Bass at its best shape

(5.0)

Amateur Rock Classic Rock Pop Rock

I own a 2012 model with rosewood fingerboard and the series already had the stock (and now standard) custom shop pickup. This is the best crafted bass I own hands down. The quality is unmatched by its MIM counterparts: every single detail is amazing. The custom shop pickup just gets you that amazing, classic 'bite' and punch you'd expect from a P-bass, the body finish is flawless, the neck is super comfortable (yes, even if you take into consideration the Precision Bass chunkier neck when compared to that of a Jazz Bass), the bridge is fantastic and gives you the STB and regular stringing options... And the simple volume/tone config is what it should be: simple, but effective (and rolling back the tone knob does make a difference thanks to the amazing electronics inside this instrument). Overall, yes, it is a bit pricey, but it does come with a strap, a cable, the SKB case and the expected quality you'd want from an American made Fender instrument. You get what you pay for the price range, and I think this is the number one factor when considering buying a more expensive instrument. Try this bass out. If you're looking for the classic P sound and fantastic construction, this is it.

BEST BY FAR

I have owed many basses over the years, mostly mid range axes. The second I held this bass in my hand and played my first note, it felt perfect. The playability and tone is amazing. Perfect size and weight. I own a 53 Fender P-reissue, it doesn't even come close. The Neck on this beauty is fast and comfortable. I would place it close to the 78 Standard Precision in over all feel. Mine has been updated with Custom Shop Pickups which brings brilliance and unbelievable bottom end. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for an excellent all-around bass.
Great job Fender!!!

Awesome P-Bass

(5.0)
Ralpharmst on February 25, 2013 (updated February 27, 2013)

Bought my American Standard P -Bass in November 2012. Hadn't played for years! My previous bass was a fretless P Bass that I bought back in the 70s. This new bass is just awesome! Great sound. After playing a fretless I was concerned about fret rattle. But the new bass is easily played and fret buzz is minimal. Craftsmanship is terrific. Came right out of the box from Fender and didn't need any adjusting whatsoever. I just love this Bass! And the Candy Cola with Rosewood fret board and white pick guard is really sharp!

And combined with a new Rumble 350 Combo makes a great, great package.

I wouldn't play anything but Fender basses. They have always been the best!

I have been playing 37 years and have owned or played everything out there. I only wanted to purchase this bass for the simple reason that.... as a teen, when I first started playing, it was my dream to own a Fender Precision. Well, for various reasons it has been practically the only bass I've never owned. I was stunned to receive the bass, and find that with only a few standard adjustments it revealed itself to be the most finely built bass I've ever played....I'm serious! I look at things that experienced players look at, including: fretwork, lack of dead spots on the fretboard, versatility between slap and finger styles, nut slot heights were perfect, tone, craftsmanship. Not to mention that the bass is beautiful. Anybody that is thinking about purchasing this bass.....don't hesitate, I believe you'll be pleased!

Timeless Classic

The moment I picked up this bass and played the first few notes I knew this was the bass for me. Having owned a number of other basses which all seemed to have something wrong with them I wanted something a little bit special. I found it with this one, the sound quality is very good and it keeps its tuning all the way down the neck perfectly something that other basses fail on. It is definitely one to keep!!!

Simple Bass but complex in it's tone ...

This Bass is in General a quite simple bass - one tone knob and one volume knob - that's it. Next to this simplicity are a collection of complex flavour of tone structures which make this Bass so remarkable. The neck is well suited for some big guys and supports a powerful grip and playing style. You either hate it or love it ... I do love my P-Bass and I do regret, that it took me so long to own one.

2011 60th Anniversary Precision Bass

(4.0)
dougz on February 18, 2013

Having owned several P-basses over the years, the 60th Anniversary model caught my eye. I scored the Sunburst/Maple neck model and it's just gorgeous! The engraved 60th anniversary neckplate was a big selling point for me, as I wanted something that stood out from the pack a bit more. Absolutely the finest playing and sounding Precision I've ever owned! My only complaint on the newer models is the lack of the skunk stripe on the neck. I've always thought that was such a cool look on a Fender bass. Beyond that, I couldn't be more pleased. It's a keeper!

Timeless and proven. 'Nuff said...

My 1st bass was a Fender over 25 years ago. I have owned and played a plethora of basses over the time that has passed. From boutique, to 'all in one, everything/kitchen sink' instruments. Though my affinity for the Stingray bass holds, and I strongly consider it the Leo Fender P-Bass "Mach 2", I have returned to where it all started - not just for me, but for the instrument itself.
When the last guy sold me a handmade German boutique bass that "can get all the Fender sounds and more", not only did it not deliver, but why did I get an expensive facsimile? I ended up trading it in on the bass I should have bought; I took a loss, but gained so much more.
My Precision bass is a 2012 American Standard. It is solid. It is familiar. It is the bare essential. It is timeless.
I am stoked about the bridge allowing me to string through the body.
I only wish the pickups were a hint more responsive, like the Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound's found in some of the artist series. I think it is as it was intended though, and I will not change a thing; I think my ears have been jaded by years of active pickups. Heck - I don't even want to use my regular brand or gauge of strings as the 8250M's it came with sound and feel good - if Fender ships the bass with these its got to be for good reason.
When you realize the only arsenal you need is the original - Fender.
