Fender signature artist Johnny Marr has released a new video for “New Town Velocity,” the latest single from his celebrated solo debut The Messenger.
The David Barnes-directed black and white clip features Marr as he roams the deserted streets and buildings in Greater Manchester, including the council estate of Wythenshawe where he grew up. The song was inspired by Marr’s own story of the day he left school aged fifteen to pursue a life as a musician.
Earlier this week, Pitchfork offered a debut stream of Marr’s new song “The It-Switch,” which will be the b-side to ”New Town Velocity” when it is released next week exclusively in the U.K. as a limited edition 7″ vinyl, and an iTunes download.
Marr also announced that he will return stateside this fall, headlining a nationwide tour that kicks off on Halloween at the House of Blues in Anaheim, Calif. Visit his website for complete tour dates.
