In listening to tUnE-yArDs’ music, you’d think band leader Merrill Garbus had about 10 musicians backing her, considering there is so much going on in her songs.
But no.
With a bassist and two horns, Garbus uses a series of looping pedals to create energetic rhythms and sweepingly harmonized tweaks and shouts.
It’s hard not to smile and bob your head along with the organized chaos.
tUne-yArDs recently performed for NPR staffers among the tight space of Bob Boilan’s desk for their in-office series, Tiny Desk Concerts.
