After Spin reported earlier this month that Trey Anastasio of Phish is working on a new studio album with members of The National and their producer Peter Katis, an on-stage collaboration was inevitable.
Now, that dream of a live collabo is a reality as the jam king joined the indie rockers Friday night midway through a set during the National’s six-show residency in New York’s Beacon Theatre.
Anastasio backed three tracks off 2011′s High Violet — “Bloodbuzz Ohio,” “Terrible Love” and “Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks” — plus “Murder Me Rachael” and Boxer‘s “Squalor Victoria.”
The Phish frontman and solo artist showed his guitar prowess at the end of “Bloodbuzz,” closing out the song with a slightly-noodling solo.
