The Skins Set for Strong Showing at SXSW

The Skins

Brooklyn-based soul rock outfit The Skins is looking to make a name for themselves at the annual South by Southwest music festival, and by the response to their Monday night set at the Bourbon Grill in Austin, Texas, they are off to a solid start.

Entourage actor Adrian Grenier, the brainchild behind Wreckroom Records, introduced the band, promising that everyone needed to start “tweeting this shit because you are about to be blown away.”

He was not off the mark. Photographers will have a hard time figuring out where to focus on this young act which features siblings Bayli, Reef and Kaya McKeithan on vocals, drums and bass respectively. At only age 13, Reef is scary good on the drums while his two older sisters manage a mature stage presence that belies their age. The band is rounded out by dueling guitarists Russell Chell and Daisy Spencer, who calls to mind Joan Jett in her heyday.

None of them are older than 19, but they channel a much older, soulful vibe and are likely to appeal to the SXSW masses with a unique blend of fun and funky rock.

The Skins are currently working on their debut full-length album Show Me Some Skin to follow up last year’s well received eponymous debut EP. Check out a video for “Killer” below.
