You can’t miss Cream City Music in Brookfield, Wis.—it’s the place with the giant blue Telecaster® out front. A mere 15 minutes west of downtown Milwaukee, it’s also one of the finest Fender dealers in the entire region.
At the coldest times of year, Cream City Music looks like a winter wonderland outside. But inside, it’s a Fender wonderland all year round. As noted, a giant blue Telecaster greets customers just outside the entrance, and inside there are Fender guitars, basses and amps everywhere, along with an impressive instrument selection from sister brand Gretsch®.
CCM is especially proud of its status as a Fender Custom Shop Showcase dealer, and guests are treated to a dazzling display of Fender’s finest, with one-off and custom-order guitars not found anywhere else.
Generally speaking, in fact, CCM boasts a fine and widely varied inventory of new, used and vintage Fender instruments and amps. There’s something for every player in every price range, ably served by a knowledgeable staff, including a team of luthiers who perform a thorough setup and nine-point quality check on every instrument exiting the premises (CCM is also an authorized fender repair center).
Many dealers started out with an actual retail location and later added a web presence, but it Cream City’s case, it worked the other way around. Husband-and-wife team Joe and Jessi Gallenberger founded an online outfit in 1999 called Warpdrive Music, the success of which soon prompted the opening of an actual retail location in Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood. This was the original Cream City Music store (“Cream City” is a Milwaukee nickname that dates back to the 19th century, when many buildings there featured cream-colored brickwork). To this day, incidentally, Warpdrive Music remains the name of Cream City Music’s eBay store.
Business boomed, and Cream City Music (CCM) moved to its current 6,000-square-foot Brookfield location in 2006, where it has matured into a world-class guitar shop and one of the Midwest’s finest Fender dealers.
