Tanlines Breaks Out Dance-y Tracks At Outside Lands

Tanlines, an indie rock duo from Brooklyn, talked a lot about wanting to hurry up with their set Friday at San Francisco’s Outside Lands in order to get through the most songs they could muster in their 40-minute allotment.

The Jesse Cohen and Eric Emm posse must have completed the task, because the rapt crowd was into every danceable beat.

The band’s 2012 debut full-length, Mixed Emotions, has enabled Tanlines to tour consistently this year in support of their calypso-tinged songs.

There was even a special treat for their San Franciscan fans, as Cohen explained that he sat next to someone on the plane ride over who requested the fan-favorite “Green Grass.”

Hopefully, that fan was there when Tanlines broke into the jammy opening notes of “Green Grass,” causing the groggy afternoon audience’s hips to shake.

For such a young group, Tanlines reveled in every moment of Outside Lands, noting that they are on the same bill as Metallica, Stevie Wonder and Justice.

“That day has finally arrived,” joked Cohen.
