Strand of Oaks Rocks New Tunes on WFUV

Philadelphia’s Timothy Showalter is known for putting out autobiographical and emotional folk music under his pseudonym Strand of Oaks, but his latest album Heal is a straight-up rocker.

Showalter and his band showcased a few of those harder-hitting tracks during a recent appearance on WFUV in New York City.

The song “Goshen ’97″ has a rumbling bassline and blasts of guitars —the album version features fretwork from Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis— while “Plymouth” seems to channel U2 with an ethereal and brooding vibe to it.
