Seattle’s Hard Rock Café will celebrate its grand opening tonight with a V.I.P. event, complete with a “Guitar Smash” and live performances by indie band Ra Ra Riot and special guests The Thermals.
As much it pains me to write, 20 of our donated Fender guitars will be sacrificed for tonight’s guitar smash salute. But as Seattle’s legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix once said, “The time I burned my guitar it was like a sacrifice. You sacrifice the things you love. I love my guitar.”
Ra Ra Riot’s guitarist Milo Bonacci will make an offering of his own tonight, donating the first guitar he ever purchased — a 90s Fender Big Apple Stratocaster —to the Hard Rock’s world-famous collection.
The event will benefit The Vera Project and The Musary, organizations that provide access to musical instruments and foster participation in the performing arts.
