The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2013 was announced on Tuesday, and it includes Rush, Heart, Public Enemy, Donna Summer, Randy Newman and Albert King.
“It’s a terrific honor and we’ll show up smiling,” Rush bassist Geddy Lee told Rolling Stone. “It made my mom happy, so that’s worth it.”
“It was a cause they championed,” Lee said to RS. “I’m very relieved for them and we share this honor with them, for sure.”
Rush, Public Enemy and the longtime bluesman King were first-time nominees. Newman and the pioneering female rock band Heart made it through as finalists on their third attempt. Summer, who passed away last May, finally made it into the hall on her sixth try.
Additionally, famed producers Quincy Jones and Lou Adler round out the list of 2013 inductees, via the Ahmet Ertegun non-performing category.
The 28th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place April 18, 2013 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. It will air on HBO on May 18.
