Duff McKagan had a knowing smile when asked to name the new Velvet Revolver singer.
The search may finally be over for the new Velvet Revolver singer.
Prior to kicking off his tour with Ozzy Osborne in mid-January, Slash told Entertainment Weekly that a decision would be made in the “coming weeks.”
“There’s a couple people and I can’t tell you who they are but they’re all good,” said Slash. “Pretty much everybody has been really, really good. It’s just trying to find the right fit and the right style, and somebody who just gets it…There’s one guy that’s definitely pretty well-known.”
Rumors are now flying that said “well-known” person may be Corey Taylor, but when asked by Billboard, the Slipknot singer just laughed and said, “To be continued.”
Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan didn’t cough up much either when we met up with him two weeks ago at the 2011 Fender Showcase in Anaheim, Calif.
“That’s a tough one to answer,” said McKagan. “We recorded with a guy last week. We’ve got a bunch of songs that we wrote and recorded two years ago. So we worked with a singer and he sang on about nine of those songs. Really great guy. We’ve worked with a lot of really, really great singers. The thing is — you have to find the guy who fits your thing. You can hear a guy sing and think ‘How can that not work?’ Then you get him into the surroundings, and for whatever reason, a guy will come in the room and he’ll see Slash and then Matt (Sorum) and me and Dave (Kushner) and they freak out. They’re nervous or whatever. The difference between good and great is how you function under pressure. So I think we might have found that guy. If you’re asking me, I think we did.”
