A number of today’s top artists compiled a tribute set for Disney’s upcoming Muppets movie. Muppets: The Green Album will drop August 23 via Walt Disney Records, and features artists like My Morning Jacket, Paramore, Weezer, and others covering classic songs from Jim Henson’s songbook.
One of the songs in the album is My Morning Jacket’s version of “Our World,” which was originally featured on the 1977 Muppets Christmas special Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas.
My Morning Jacket bassist Tom Blankenship spoke with Spin magazine about the band’s participation in the album.
“Every December, my friend Cara and I would camp in her basement, furiously running through channels on the old slider cable box, passing time until the next showing of Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas,” he said. “It deserves to share legendary status with Rudolph, Frosty, and Charlie Brown [holiday specials].”
