Farm Aid is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to keep family farmers on their land. In 1985, Mellencamp, Nelson and Young organized the first Farm Aid concert to raise awareness about this issue and to raise funds to keep farm families on their land. The musicians were joined on the Farm Aid Board of Directors by Matthews in 2001.
