Mars Volta bassist Juan Alderete has a new favorite bass these days — a brand new Squier by Fender Classic Vibe ’60s Precision Bass® guitar in Fiesta Red.
“It’s my new baby,” he says.
Alderete was at a bass convention when he ran into Reggie Hamilton, who told him he had to check out the newest line of Squier basses.
“I picked it up and looked at Reggie and I was like, ‘F–k, this thing is awesome!’” Alderete shared. “Fender offered to send me one, but I said, ‘No, I’ve got to own this particular one,’ because I’ve got to play basses before I buy them. The bass I used in Racer X was a Squier that I bought off the wall at Guitar Center. Even though I was endorsed by Fender, I still paid for that one because it was ‘the one.’ And, I still own it. It was the same thing with this one. I played it and I was like, ‘This thing rules.’ I had to have it because I felt like if I waited for another one, it wouldn’t be the exact same. This was the guy.”
