Man Steals Fender Guitar from Casket

Yes, you read that headline correctly.

Steve Conrad, a grounds superintendent at a Green Bay area cemetery, has been accused of stealing a Fender guitar from the casket of a man who died recently.

According to a report by the Associated Press, the dead man’s family confirmed that a Fender Telecaster guitar was in the casket last Thursday afternoon, when it was being moved from the funeral home to the Allouez Catholic Cemetery’s mausoleum.

The sherrif’s department said in a news release that a cemetery employee reportedly overheard Conard talking about the guitar.

“That’s a Telly, a really expensive guitar. I have to have that guitar. It’s too expensive to be in a crypt,” the employee quoted Conrad as saying.

Conrad’s defense?

“This isn’t something I normally do; I just have a respect for fine musical instruments,” Conrad told investigators.

The guitar was found in Conrad’s home by deputies, and returned to the family.

Wow.

Aught’ be aginist the law to bury any guitar. What a waste. The Dead can’t play, and the dead would want the guitar to pass on to someone who would play it. It was made to make music, not rot. Oh, what skill could arrive by a new player with a free Telly.
Wish in my early years someone could have given me a free Telly.
