John 5 and Slipknot were among the big winners at the fifth-annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards ceremony, which was held this week at Los Angeles’ Club Nokia.
John 5 took home the trophy for Best Guitarist, beating out a star-studded list that included Rush’s Alex Lifeson and Stephen Carpenter of Deftones.
As for Slipknot, the masked outfit was honored as the Best Live Band.
With yesterday’s passing of Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman, there was a solemn air to the festivities, but several winners and performers paid tribute to the super-shredder and the metal/hard rock community.
That included Stone Sour, whose four-song set included a cover of Black Sabbath’s “Children of the Grave” with guest appearances from Slipknot’s M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan and Chris Fehn.
