J Mascis Jams With the Roots on Fallon

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon boasts the luxury of having the legendary Roots as their house band on a daily basis, but the group recently had a major addition in the form of Dinosaur Jr. frontman J Mascis.

Mascis sat in with the band throughout an entire episode that featured Mark Wahlberg, Poppy Montgomery and the Virgins.

To see Mascis in action, fast forward to the 17:03 mark, where he and the Roots perform Dinosaur Jr.’s version of the Cure’s “Just Like Heaven,” the 21:25 mark for Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” and Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” at the 36:20 mark.

In addition, Fallon sneakily tried to get Mascis to leave behind one of his signature Squier Jazzmasters after the show at the 17:25 mark.

“That is sounding great. What kind of guitar is that you’re playing?” Fallon asked.

“This is my own Squier Jazzmaster model,” Mascis replied.

“Oh really?  You have your own… of course you have your own guitar. That’s a beautiful guitar. I want to get my own guitar.  It’s beautiful.  I wanna get one of those,” Fallon said with a playful smile.   “You have two of them there.  I’m just saying…  If you have to leave one here, it’s not your problem, right?”
