Hal Leonard Presents Guitar for Girls by Ali Handal

Guitar for Girls
Los Angeles-based recording artist Ali Handal has released a new guitar instructional book called Guitar for Girls: A Beginner’s Guide to Playing Acoustic or Electric Guitar.

Designed specifically for girls in their tween years (and far beyond), this book will teach guitarists how to play their instrument using real songs by popular female artists and songwriters. This fun and easy-to-use book/CD pack will get players strumming chords and singing their favorite songs in no time – without having to read standard music notation, or even tablature. Everyone from absolute beginners to budding songwriters will gain valuable knowledge as they progress through the book.

Guitar for Girls is a truly unique book that’s about more than just the music. Author Ali Handal approaches teaching in a non-traditional, psychological way.

“I took great care to include encouragement, advice, and inspiring quotes from musicians for my readers,” explained Handal. “I believe that addressing the ‘inner game’ of learning guitar is as important as teaching fundamental chords and songs.”

Guitar for Girls covers: Guitar Basics; Tuning; Basic Chords; Strumming Techniques; Chord Alternatives; Power Chords; Guitar Tablature; Single-String Picking; Palm Muting; Fingerpicking; Singing While Playing; Using a Capo; Alternate Tunings; Songwriting Tips; and more.

The method features hits by these pioneering women of rock, country and beyond: “Angel” – Sarah McLachlan, “Back on the Chain Gang” – The Pretenders, “Beautiful” – Christina Aguilera, “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” – KT Tunstall, “Come to My Window” – Melissa Etheridge, “Crazy on You” – Heart, “Fever” – Peggy Lee, “Girls with Guitars” – Wynonna Judd, “Give Me One Reason” – Tracy Chapman, “How Was I to Know” – Reba McEntire, “I Love Rock ‘N Roll” – Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, “It Matters to Me” – Faith Hill, “It’s Too Late” – Carole King, “Landslide” – Fleetwood Mac, “Leather and Lace” – Stevie Nicks, “Love Sneakin’ Up on You” – Bonnie Raitt, “Mean” – Taylor Swift, “Not a Pretty Girl” – Ani DiFranco, “Proud Mary” – Ike & Tina Turner, “Soak Up the Sun” – Sheryl Crow, “We Got the Beat” – The Go-Go’s, “You Oughta Know” – Alanis Morissette, and “You’re Still the One” – Shania Twain.
