It has been 35 years since Elvis Presley’s death, which could make this year’s Elvis Week one of the biggest ever at his Memphis homestead of Graceland. AFP noted that this year’s event could attract an estimated 75,000 fans.
The festivities, which run through Aug. 18, have been heightened partly due to the fact that Presley’s widow Priscilla and daughter Lisa Marie Presley are participating for the first time.
On Thursday, a downtown concert featuring Priscilla and Lisa Marie, as well as surviving members of Presley’s band, reviewed the legend’s roots in blues, gospel and country music. In addition, the sixth-annual Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest welcomed contestants from countries as far away as Australia and Japan.
