In the wake of the news that R.E.M. has opted to call it a day, Coldplay paid tribute to legendary rockers on Saturday night at the Music Midtown Festival in Atlanta with a cover of “Everybody Hurts.”
“One of our favorite bands of all time, R.E.M., for some crazy reason have finished — and it’s sad,” said Chris Martin as he introduced the song. “So with the most respect in the world … this is just to show how much they meant to us.”
