As they launched into “The Golden Rule,” the action was punctuated with bursting flames that leapt up and highlighted the stage’s background. During third song “Who’s Got a Match?” frontman Simon Neil waved a burning flare, the first of two torches he would wield that evening.
Biffy Clyro was in top form, as the trio noted their appreciation of the honor to close out the legendary festival and performed like they meant it, pulling out all the hits from their extensive catalog.
An unexpected highlight came towards the end, with a rocking version of “Black Chandelier” from their 2013 double-disc release Opposites flowing into “The Captain.” Once “The Captian” finished, Neil took out a second flare and lit his Fender Stratocaster on fire before walking off.
The band returned to play a three-song encore, finalizing their time with “Mountain” to leave a massive crowd in amazement.
