But the band’s brand of sweet sun-laced beach pop made the heat at Spin‘s showcase totally bearable.
With a new album set to drop May 15, Best Coast drew upon several new tunes off The Only Place.
A major highlight was their latest single, “Our Deal,” the Drew Barrymore-directed video for which had just won an MTV Woodie Award for Best Video.
The honor was presented by Jersey Shore alum Pauly D, who “has really white teeth in real life,” according to singer Bethany Cosentino.
At this point, however, the classics drew the biggest response, and Cosentino knew it.
“One more new song, and then the hits, I swear,” Cosentino told the crowd midway through their set before the opening notes of “Mean Girls.”
After that, it was a big single off 2010′s Crazy For You, an earnest love yarn entitled “Boyfriend” that closed the show.
Best Coast has a slew of tour dates supporting The Only Place, in case you couldn’t make it to the Spin party.
