In its October issue, Bass Player’s Dave Pomeroy reviews a 1975 Fender Fretless Precision Bass, calling it “quite an interesting animal.”
The piece lists prominent fretless bass players, starting with fretless bass pioneer Jaco Pastorius. Other high-profile fretless masters listed include the Band’s Rick Danko and Bad Company’s Boz Burrell.
In describing the ’75 Frettless P-bass, Pomeroy talks about its versatility.
“There are a ton of useable sounds with this bass,” said Pomeroy. “The neck pickup sounds warm and throaty by itself, and when you roll in the bridge pickup, the complex highs of the classic Fender Jazz sound come in.”
Despite being almost 40 years old, Pomeroy says the ’75 Fretless P-bass “still sounds cool and unique many years later.”
