Band of Skulls rolled through Scottsdale last night for a show at the Martini Ranch, and in this blogger’s humble opinion, they just keep getting better.
This was the third time I’ve seen them live, but the first I’ve heard them play their New Moon track “Friends” in person, a number that earned major love from the packed house.
Singer/guitarist Russell Marsden also has added a new Gretsch guitar to his rack. Marsden used it on “Cold Fame,” which added that unmistakable great Gretsch sound to the tune.
The U.K. trio is now en route to Coachella to play the Ghobi stage tomorrow around 4:30 p.m.
But back to Martini Ranch … The entire evening wound up being a mostly-Fender affair with U.K. band 22-20’s and The Whigs of Athens, Ga., also relying on Fender guitars, basses and amps.
The Whigs singer/guitarist Parker Gispert
If you’ve never seen The Whigs live, I recommend you check them out on April 27 when they appear on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
