Alderete Drops New Album With Big Sir

Juan Alderete might be best known as the bassist for The Mars Volta, but one of his other musical projects – Big Sir – recently released a new record.

Titled Before Gardens After Gardens, the record is Big Sir’s fourth – and their first in six years.

Consisting of Alderete and vocalist Lisa Papineau (Air, M83), the duo was recently profiled in the Los Angeles Times, where they talked about the electronic feel on some of Gardens‘ songs.

“On the first record we used SB 1200 and MPCs or drum machines. But nowadays we’ve got Logic [beat-making software] and it’s so much easier,” Alderete told the paper.  ”Lisa and I love hip-hop and this is kind of our way of creating hip-hop-type music. We might’ve made this kind of record back then, but it was just harder.”

Stream Before Gardens After Gardens now at Big Sir’s official bandcamp page.
