60th Anniversary Tele Notes & Trivia: 1962

A landmark Telecaster album is recorded in summer of this year as the debut record by a seminal instrumental Memphis R&B quartet. Released in October 1962, it was the first charting album for the Stax Records label, and its 12-bar blues title track became a massive worldwide hit, due in so small part to the impeccably stabbing fretwork of the group’s resident R&B/soul Telecaster master. Who was the group, what was the scallion-themed album/song title, and who was the guitarist?

UPDATE: And the answers are … Booker T. & the M.G.s, Green Onions (album and song) and Steve Cropper. Well played, everyone …

Meet the Colonel: One of 1962's finest.
