Annie Clements, Fender-wielding bassist for chart-topping country act Sugarland, practically has music written into her DNA.Raised in a musical household, she is the daughter of acclaimed guitarist Cranston Clements (Dr. John, Bozz Scaggs, Earl Turner), with whom she played in bands since her early teens. Her musical talent was well evident from an early age, and Clements continually honed her bass skills against the rich musical and cultural background of her New Orleans home, playing regularly in French Quarter blues bands and performing at the annual New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival since childhood.

Clements enrolled at Boston’s Berklee College of Music in 1999, majoring in electric bass performance and voice. She excelled there, earning a scholarship and graduating cum laude in 2003, after which she returned to New Orleans to back recording artist Theresa Andersson.

Performing and recording stints with Andersson and with southern rock trio Sons of William furthered Clements’ reputation as a New Orleans/Nashville musician to be reckoned with, and in February 2006 she became touring bassist and backup vocalist for Sugarland, the Atlanta-based country duo that has released two multi-platinum albums and eight chart-topping singles, and was named best duo at the 2007 Country Music Association Awards. Clements played with Sugarland when it appeared with R&B artist Beyoncé Knowles at the 2007 American Music Awards and on that year’s Country Music Television tour, the group’s first headlining tour.
