Great Bass for about anything!

I bought last year's model of this bass. Exactly the same except mine is the standard Fender 3 tone sunburst and it was on sale for $240 Cdn, before Fender repriced this Bass at $499 US. I have to say even at $499 US it's a good buy. At the $240 Cdn + tax I picked mine up for it was a terrific deal. Bought this so I would have a nice 2nd bass so as not to be retuning all the time, as our band plays in E, and Eb, depending on the song. Frankly I'm still shaking my head. It's a great bass, don't believe the price I got it for. The sound is incredible with the Duncan designed pickups and the bass itself plays like a much more expensive instrument. There are still a few 3 tone sunburst models like mine floating around at dealers on the net for the the old price of $300 US for those who are not set on the black model they are offering now. As I said previously though, $499 US is a really decent price for a bass of this ilk. Don't let the Squier name keep you from looking at this either. The workmanship and quality of mine is very good, the neck is perfect and the whole instrument looks well made. I highly recommend this bass!

I bought this bass 2 years ago when life circumstances put me in a situation where I needed a new, inexpensive bass, like, yesterday. I researched and researched and made the decision to go with the Fender Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass having no idea just how amazing this bass would be (I bought it online without ever hearing or playing one in person.)

2 years, almost 400 gigs, countless rehearsals and practice hours, a handful of recording sessions, sweat, beer, Texas heat, a few dings, scrapes, drops... and she's still performing beautifully! :)

I play in or have played in Soul, Reggae, Brazilian, Funk, Americana, Hip Hop, West African High-Life, Zydeco, Blues, Rock, Gospel, Jazz, EDM and Country ensembles over the past two years and NEVER has my bass let me down in any situation!

Thanks for making a fine tool that allows me to express the LOW END in any musical situation that life chooses to send my way!

Peace!

Brilliant bass

This was my second fender product (I'm picking up a Fender standard telecaster soon) and it is brilliant. It's one of my favourite designs, great value and comfortable to play. My favourite feature is the stacked volume and tone knobs. I gave a 4 on tone because it sounds amazing on the Precision pickup and sounds even better on the P&J combined. My only problem on tone is that the Jazz pickup on its own lacks a little bit. But other than that I would recommend this bass to anyone.

Other than the pure appearance apple, this bass is an excellent instrument, the neck is playable more than other expensive basses in the market, the sound is excellent, the duncan design are loads and expressive, for rock and derivatives is a good choice!
In my opinion this bass doesn't need any substitution, it's perfect as is. Advised!!!

I was going into the music store to buy strings. I saw this bass and went straight to it. I have a Classic Player Jazzmaster I also gig with. When I picked it up, I knew I was going to buy it. The only time i bought and instrument without plugging it into an amp and playing. I'm nin my mid 40s and play in a working band, I've used Fender Gear for over 30 years. The brigde and tuners were the same as on several other Fender basses I own, all I did was check to see if the screws were tight. The neck was very close to what I set on relief. Action was high but I set guitars and basses up for fellow musicians. The look of this bass blew me away. This was the very first one of these the music store had, I had not seen one yet. There was no price tag on it, The store sold it to me for the price of the cheaper jaguar bass, when I noticed this a couple weeks later i told the store they said don't worry about it, that I bought enough stuff from them. When i got home i plugged it in and adjusted the pickups. They are actually pretty hot. The stack knobs remind me of my Danelectro Basses, the notched tone knobs took a little getting used to, but i am not complaining at all. The P pickup has a nice growl to it, The Jazz pickup is nice and twangy. If I had designed this bass I would have reversed the pickup layout. This bass has a better tone than my USA 1990 J-P 90 Bass.

I am leaving in an hour or so to play a show on the oregon coast. I've got it loaded already. If you hear a band and see a Blue Buick Hearse and see one of these basses on stage It's Me.

I own a ton of Fender Gear. This bass is very nice, Does not feel, look, or sound like a budget instrument. Just holding it and the unplugged sound of this bass sold me, No Regrets :)

Wicked Fun

Amateur Blues R&B Funk Alternative Rock Classic Rock Reggae / Ska

I play the bass guitar for fun. I love the instrument. In 1976 my father helped me buy a Fender Precision Bass and Bassman 10 amplifier. I still have the bass and I love, it but I was itching for a new instrument (I just got a bug for a new one). I tried about a zillion basses at various prices and by various manufacturers, but when I played the Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass I was in love all over again and I knew immediately that It was the ONE.
It has all the tones I was searching for, the look, the feel, and the price... The price blew me away. I couldn't believe I could get a bass this hot for under $500.
Anyway, I only stopped playing it to write this review. Just wanted to let the people at Fender know that I appreciate the effort you all put into making such a quality product at an affordable price. I suspect in another 40 years I'll get a hankering to buy another Fender bass, but until then I'm having a blast playing my new VM Jag.

Thanks,

Gregg

If you care about having a quality instrument that looks, feels and sounds high quality, and do not need the Fender logo on the headstock, this is a tremendous choice.

Great sound for a low price

I was given this bass by a friend. I have heard that the quality varies from bass to bass in the Squier line, but the one I had was brilliant. The two tone knobs and two volume knobs gave this bass a wide range of tonal possibilities. I was playing it through a Fender Rumble 15v2 and could not believe the low end growl it could produce. I was also able to dial in some warmer bass tones.
The fit and finish was spot on and I had no complaints about this product other than I prefer short scale basses (I play mostly guitar and feel stretched when I switch). I traded it to a friend who plays guitar in a local band but needs a bass periodically. He loves the look and sound and enjoys telling everyone how little this bass goes for.
If the other VM Jaguar Basses are as good as mine was, then it maybe the greatest value bass on the market.
